Izmir Metamuseum offers visitors a unique experience by combining rich history and cultural heritage with virtual reality technology.
TARKEM, a public-private partnership company collaborates on innovative real estate projects in the Kemeralti and surrounding urban renewal area. Recently, they approached us to create a virtual reality application for the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. Our concept aims to preserve and celebrate Izmir's rich cultural heritage through an immersive and interactive experience that goes beyond traditional museum visits.
Izmir, historically known as Smyrna, is a metropolis located at the western edge of Turkey. With a rich history that spans over 8500 years, Izmir is a testament to numerous civilizations, from the Neolithic period to the present day. Izmir is not only a hub of cultural heritage but also a significant center for trade and commerce. Its strategic location on the Aegean coast has made it a pivotal port city throughout history, influencing the region's economic and cultural exchanges.
Character and garment creation were pivotal in the Izmir Metamuseum project. We developed an extensive collection of garments ranging from the Neolithic Period to the Ottoman Era. To ensure smooth performance in a VR environment, we meticulously optimized these models using various tools. For the Kemeralti level, we focused on achieving maximum immersion by creating a highly optimized crowd simulation. Leveraging AI tools, we programmed characters to appear randomly in a calculated manner, enhancing the realism of the virtual experience.
